A reputable nickel mining company is seeking an experienced and strategic candidate for a Head of Legal job based in Jakarta to lead its group companies legal function.
About The Head Of Legal Role
As the Head of Legal, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the organisation’s adherence to good corporate governance practices, managing legal aspects related to permits and regulatory compliance, and overseeing all legal matters pertaining to mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities. Your expertise will be instrumental in safeguarding the company’s legal interests and contributing to its sustainable growth and success.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust corporate governance policies and practices in alignment with industry standards and legal requirements
- Advise senior management and the Board of Directors on corporate governance matters, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the organisation
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and recommend necessary adjustments to corporate governance practices accordingly
- Lead efforts to obtain and maintain all necessary permits, licenses, and approvals required for the company’s operations, ensuring full compliance with local, regional, and international regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the legal implications of operational decisions and strategic initiatives, providing guidance to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations
- Oversee the legal aspects of M&A activities, including due diligence, contract negotiations, drafting of agreements, and post-merger integration efforts
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, external legal counsel, and financial advisors to execute M&A transactions successfully while managing legal risks
- Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive advice to mitigate and manage these risks across all aspects of the company’s operations
- Develop and implement risk management strategies and protocols to protect the company’s interests and reputation
- Manage and lead the legal team, providing guidance, mentoring, and fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Allocate resources effectively, set performance goals, and ensure the legal team’s contributions align with the company’s strategic objectives
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities, government agencies, external legal advisors, industry associations, and other stakeholders to stay informed about legal developments and industry trends
To excel in this Head of Legal role, you will need to have experience in building a mining or investment company with expertise in mergers and acquisition and a proven track record in leading a team.
- Minimum of 10 years’ legal experience with a proven track record of handling complex corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and M&A matters within the mining or natural resources sector
- Strong knowledge of industry regulations, environmental laws, and permitting processes
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to manage and inspire a legal team effectively
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Sound judgement and the ability to make well-informed decisions under pressure
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Business acumen and the ability to align legal strategies with broader business objectives
- Experience working in a multinational or diverse cultural environment is a plus
